Respond to Emergencies

When it comes to emergency situations, it’s not a matter of if but when the next will occur. Global Impact’s Charity Alliance includes leading response organizations like Americares, Direct Relief, International Medical Corps and Save the Children. From hurricanes to forced displacement in conflict situations, our member charities have the capacity to act swiftly in the wake of natural disasters and humanitarian crises around the world. These organizations are vital in response efforts, erecting temporary shelters, delivering emergency medical supplies, protecting children and others who need special assistance, and ensuring that basic resources are available and sanitary conditions are maintained. They also have established programs in place to help affected individuals and communities regain long-term stability.

More than 80 wildfires continue to burn across Oregon, Washington and California, leaving destruction in their wake. 36 lives have been claimed, and more than 4.6 million acres of land have been burned. Thousands of people have been evacuated.

Our Charity Alliance members are working to help those in need with supplies and other support. Get involved by donating through our Standing Emergency Response Fund.

Already hit with a financial crisis and the coronavirus pandemic, Beirut suffered a deadly explosion on Tuesday, Aug. 4. Nearly 200 are confirmed dead, with thousands injured and missing. Due to damage from the blast, an estimated 300,000 people are now homeless and require assistance. Additionally, a huge fire broke out at Beirut's port on Sept. 10, raising new panic and destroying critical supplies.

Our Charity Alliance partners are providing immediate relief to those affected by these disasters, including but not limited to: temporary shelter for those whose homes have been destroyed; food, hygiene and household supplies for families staying in shelters or whose homes have been damaged; and medical supplies such as critical wound care kits and personal protective equipment. These response efforts remain strong even as some of these charities deal with damage to regional offices and other losses of their own.

Over the next few weeks and months, the people of Beirut will need our help. Give to our Beirut Explosion Emergency Relief Fund to help support response efforts for this emergency.

On March 11, 2020, nearly two months after announcing a global health emergency, the World Health Organization declared the COVID-19 outbreak a pandemic. Caused by the virus SARS-CoV-2, the disease originated in China and has spread to every continent except for Antarctica. There have been more than 29,944,995 confirmed cases and more than 942,840 deaths.

Global Impact’s Charity Alliance partners are responding worldwide. Response efforts include mitigating and treating the disease among vulnerable communities; delivering medical supplies such as face masks, hand sanitizer and gloves to health care workers; providing infectious disease training; assisting businesses with containment and continuity strategies; and more.

Give to the Coronavirus Outbreak Fund today and support relief and recovery for the vulnerable impacted by this pandemic.
