Respond to Emergencies

When it comes to emergency situations, it’s not a matter of if but when the next will occur. Global Impact’s Charity Alliance includes leading response organizations like Americares, International Medical Corps and Save the Children. From hurricanes to forced displacement in conflict situations, our member charities have the capacity to act swiftly in the wake of natural disasters and humanitarian crises around the world. These organizations are vital in response efforts, erecting temporary shelters, delivering emergency medical supplies, protecting children and others who need special assistance, and ensuring that basic resources are available and sanitary conditions are maintained. They also have established programs in place to help affected individuals and communities regain long-term stability.

On March 11, 2020, nearly two months after announcing a global health emergency, the World Health Organization declared the COVID-19 outbreak a pandemic. Caused by the virus SARS-CoV-2, the disease originated in China and has spread to every continent except for Antarctica. There have been more than 584,100 confirmed cases and more than 26,826 deaths.

Global Impact’s Charity Alliance partners are responding worldwide. Response efforts include mitigating and treating the disease among vulnerable communities; delivering medical supplies such as face masks, hand sanitizer and gloves to health care workers; providing infectious disease training; assisting businesses with containment and continuity strategies; and more.

Nearly 200 bushfires continue to burn across southeast Australia as firefighters work to control the blazes. The fires, which started in September and continue to decimate the continent, have killed at least 26 people and more than one billion animals, destroyed nearly 3,000 homes, and left thousands homeless. Many living in rural areas have been left without electricity or drinking water.

The fires are the worst Australia has faced since the 2009 Black Saturday fires, which killed 173 people. And now, record high temperatures and a severe drought are making battling the flames even more difficult.

On Jan. 10, two of the fires merged to form a "megafire" covering 2,300 square miles.

Our charity partners are providing relief to those affected by this disaster. Please support our Australia wildefires emergency relief fund to help support response efforts for this emergency.

A 6.4-magnitude earthquake hit Puerto Rico on Tuesday, Jan. 7, killing one person and causing widespread blackouts. The quake was followed by at least 35 aftershocks. More than 2,000 people have been displaced, while nearly one million have been left without power and thousands without water. There is a widespread threat of landslides and collapsing structures.

The situation is unfolding and our charity partners are responding with supplies and other support. Please donate to Global Impact’s Puerto Rico Earthquake Emergency Relief Fund to provide much-needed funding for these relief efforts.
